| Biographie
The Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion was formed in 1985 by the late great american trombonist Bobby Burgess (1929 - 1997). Bobby Burgess, one of the great lead trombone players in the jazzworld, created a jazz bigband with an incomparable sound which became, through intensive rehearsal and concert playing over many years one of the best professional jazzorchestras on the German and European music scene. The band draws from a pool of professional musicians from Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. Propelled by idealism and unrestrained joy in playing, the band achieves a pure excitement experienced nowadays only rarely from the first note on. The band members include several jazz award winners of the Baden-Wuerttemberg region. All are active musicans in the german and european jazz scene and have their experience from groups like the French-German jazz ensemble, Peter Herbolzheimers Rhythm Combination & Brass, Big Bands of WDR, HR, NDR and SWR as well as the jazz orchestras of Bob Brookmeyer and the Orchestre National Du Jazz in Paris. Bandbook: The repertoire of the Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion covers almost 100 titles. These are compositions of the band members, selected compositions and arrangements by Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Bill Holman, Count Basie and Bob Mintzer and music from Bobbys own libary which he collected in 50 years of playing in the worlds greatest Big Bands. This CD is a rare gift of fine musicianship with many very well conceived arrangements and a marvelous group of soloists. I've never heard a better sax section than this one. This band can swing with the best of them, and I say that from six decades of experience. Track after track reflects the authoritative, hard-driving true spirit and attitude of the band.
